Seder Night
On this night, once a year in the springtime, Jewish people celebrate their physical and national freedom by recalling the Exodus from slavery in Egypt (probably in about 1,500 BCE (Before the Common Era). We eat eggs in salt water to symbolise the mixture of salt tears and new life, and bitter herbs to symbolise the bitterness of slavery. The youngest person present asks four questions about what we are doing, and why. We describe the four types of sons - wise, wicked, simple and simply a baby, and drink four glasses of wine. Then we enjoy supper and sing traditional songs.
