The Great Lakes & Islands

The Great Lakes surrounding Michigan contain more than 35,000 islands scattered throughout the fresh waters. One of the most famous and popular is called Mackinaw Island. Those who travel to Mackinaw Island should know that there are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island. Guests and visitors can transport by foot, horse-drawn carriage or bike. I have visited the island twice and it is a wonderful time in the summer! It is filled with history, architecture dating back to 1800s, and well known for its hand-made fudge treats. The Mackinaw Island bridge is how most people access/visit the island. It is the 5th longest suspension bridge in the world!
