Independence Day Celebration

My country, Papua New Guinea (PNG) gained her independence for Australia on September 16, 1975. Since then, the Independence Day is always celebrated on September 16. Independence Celebrations in PNG are big events usually involving several festivals, shows and fireworks. I live in Port Moresby, the capital city. The Independence Day in Port Moresby usually begins with a flag raising ceremony. Then we have street festivals. I always look forward to this event, because we either dress in our traditional attires or our country colour (red, black, gold and white). The traditional attires are made from leaves, birds’ feathers, animal fur, grass etc. People perform traditional dances and singing during the festival.
