Explaining Fika

Fika is a surprisingly difficult thing to explain, to Swedes it is obvious what is and isn’t fika but to explain it really requires some effort. I guess you could say that eating fika is to sit down with someone (or alone but that is considering quite sad) and just take a pause to eat something sweet like a cinnamon bun. However fika extends beyond just eating cake at a cafe. Fika could really be anything from that to eating a wedding-cake! However eating a pie right after dinner is not fika, that’s a dessert. Confusing? A little. But God is it enjoyable.
