Hogmony

Hogmony in Scotland is celebrated on the last day of the year and is usually know in other countries as New Years Eve. There are lots if traditions in Scotland that go with this celebration. We like to go to a Celidh, the men usually dress in traditional Scottish kilts, ladies are often in tartan and long Evening dresses. There is Scottish music and dancing all night with the new year being brought in by a piper. We eat stoves, haggis and tattles and drink lots of whiskey ! Other traditions on the night are first footing where it has to be a tall dark handsome person who has the first steps over the door, and they must be carrying something otherwise it brings bad luck to the house for the year, they would usually carry some shortbread, coal and whiskey. All in all we always have a fabulous start to any new year, Nothing beats a traditional Scottish Hogmony
