Midsummer

Every summer we in Sweden celebrate Midsummer. It’s an old tradition that actually has something to do with fertilizing the earth in hopes of better crops. Nowadays it’s a great time for people to dress up and meet family while eating things like strawberries and cream or going out for a picnic! Usually you have a midsummer pole, it’s a pole with two circles you stick in the ground (symbolizing fertilizing the earth) but first you decorate it with greenery and flowers. You dance and sing around the pole and you are usually dressed in white or a traditional outfit for your area. There are often people playing instruments like the violin, flute and accordion!! It’s a wonderful holiday most people celebrate here! It’s not a Christian thing and everyone is free to take part of it!
