Dusseldorf
The photo shows a Ferris wheel at the Düsseldorf castle tower. The castle tower originally formed the northern end of the Düsseldorf castle. The first three floors of the tower date back to the 13th century. Alessandro Pasqualini added a fourth, polygonal floor to the tower in 1552, which was decorated with Tuscan columns. The idea of a fifth floor came from King Frederick William IV, and his court architect Friedrich August Stüler implemented it in 1845 in the so-called round arch style. In 1883, a new portal was added to the tower by Eberhard Westhofen. Furthermore, the round arches on the fifth floor were glazed. In 1909, the tracery attic was removed during the construction of a tent roof. The present tent roof dates from 1950. Since 1984, the tower has been home to the Maritime Museum. In 2001, the tower received a new interior design. The total height of the castle tower is 33 meters.
