Welsh lovespoons

Traditionally, the lovespoon was made by young men and given to their sweethearts as love tokens. They were carved from one piece of wood, and personalised by those who made them. Originally, they were used as any spoon would be, but over time people started to hang them on walls or keep them on display. Nowadays anyone can buy them, and they can be used as gifts or tokens or a reminder of Wales. They come in many different shapes, sizes and themes. Many of the people who made them would try to incorporate their occupation so that they would be personal. For example, sailors would often carve anchors on their lovespoons.
