Beschuit met muisjes

When a child is born in the Netherlands, friends and family come to visit the baby. Then we eat “beschuit met muisjes”. Beschuit is a kind of round and thick cracker. We smear butter on top of it and we add “muisjes”. Muisjes are little, round sprinkles that taste like anise. Those sprinkles are either white and pink, or white and blue, depending on the gender of the baby. I believe orange is if the parents want it to be genderneutral, but I’m not sure.
