Confetti is something different in Italy
While people of other countries think of confetti as small bits of coloured paper (in Italy those are called Coriandoli), in my country confetti are a type of sweet used for special events. Traditionally, confetti are almonds covered in hard white sugar. Now often you might find a layer of chocolate between the almond and the sugar, or different nuts, colours and flavours such as strawberry or green apple confetti. Confetti are traditionally gifted to guests, friends and loved ones at special, landmark events such as christenings, when you get your degree, weddings. Weddings in particular usually have 5 confetti added to the party favours: the number symbolises health, wealth, happiness, long life and fertility, the blessings wished on the happy couple. The gifted confetti should always be an uneven number.
