The last place which England was invaded.

During the American war of Independence, an American Naval ship captained by John Paul Jones landed men on Whitehaven harbour, Cumbria in northwest England. They planned to set fire to the ships belonging to the British King. Instead, they found the ships in the harbour were owned by private citizens. So they left the ships but spiked all the cannons around the harbour to ensure a safe departure. In 2000 a relative of John Paul Jones was invited to Whitehaven to receive a formal letter granting him amnesty from his crimes of piracy during his raid.
