Charles castle - Great america quarry

The limestone quarry, nicknamed the Czech Grand Canyon, is about 750 m long, 150 m wide and up to 80 m deep. At its bottom there are two interconnected lakes with clear water and a depth of about 10 m. The designation America is related to the American way of mining, when branches were dug from the main corridor. The underground is thus interwoven with kilometers of corridors. The foundation stone of the most important and undoubtedly the most famous Czech castle was laid by the Roman Emperor and Czech King Charles IV. in 1348, among other things, for the purpose of storing the crown jewels and holy relics.
