Kentish Green Hop Beer and Festival
The County of Kent is known as 'The Garden of England' as it is a place of gorgeous countryside and ancient woodland. Years ago, Kent was the Hop growing center of the world, and we still have a great tradition for growing new and exciting strains of hops (one of the main ingredients used to make beer, imparting the bitter flavour and aroma found in beer). In 2012, a local Kentish brewery came up with the idea of brewing Kentish Green Hop beers, at harvest time, which has now become a tradition. The idea is that the hops have to go from the bines to the copper within 24 hours of being picked. This means only Kentish breweries can truly partake. The Kentish Green Hop Festival is now a part of the Canterbury Food and Drink Festival, and is an opportunity for all the local breweries to submit their Green Hop beers, and for the people to come down and drink them. Enjoy!
