Worcester and the River Severn

The city of Worcester is where I was born and where I currently live now. One of the most popular places to visit is the River Severn which runs through the middle. It runs alongside the cathedral and used to be the old border between England and Wales. Now they have built a new bridge there is a nice circular walk you can do, which picks up the canals, and takes you past the weir and the new fish pass they have made. The area is also a swan sanctuary so you can find lots of mute swans on the river and it is popular for people to bring them food. Boating is a popular activity, and you can usually see people rowing along the river from one of the local schools, or people on narrow boats floating by. They also hold dragon boat races on a regular basis which the residents go and watch. The river also floods on a regular basis, so people tend to go and take photos of it when it does, and just near the cathedral river entrance there is a wall with carved bricks, that show the height the river has reached in various years which you can stand next to.
