Festa Junina

The Festas Juninas, also called São João, are traditional in the northeast region of Brazil and take place in the month of June. This tradition was brought by the Portuguese and was influenced by African and indigenous peoples. In these parties there are square dances and ribbon stick performances, and the decoration is made with colorful flags and balloons. Some typical foods served at the June festivities are pamonha, curau, hominy and popcorn.
