The Maria Valeria Bridge

The Maria Valeria Bridge, now connecting Hungary and Slovakia, was built in 1895 but was bombed and destroyed in both world wars. Its three central spans were missing from 1944 until the bridge was rebuilt in 2001, which was a major event for the people living on its two sides. Since then, it has been a symbol of their connectedness. When I was a kid, we had to take a ferry to cross the river and get to Hungary and it was a lot of hassle. We all welcomed the reopening of the bridge as we can now just take a walk to the other side whenever we feel like. The view is nice, too.
