Remembrance Day.

Remembrance day is a Commonwealth holiday, where we take time to remember Commonwealth soldiers who died in active combat. The holiday began after the First World War. We place wreaths of poppies (mostly plastic/ paper poppies now) at war memorials as a sign of respect. The reason that the wreaths are made of poppies is because they grew in Ypres the fighting there in the First World War. It is symbolic that something beautiful can grow after such a horrific battle was fought there. Every 11th of November, at 11am, we take two minutes silence to remember those who fell for their country. During the silence, it is not uncommon to hear a trumpet player playing The Last Post, a sombre piece of music. I have attached an image of the Cenotaph, and the London Remembrance Day parade.
