Duck race tradition

The duck race is a tradition that my village hosts every year. People sponsor numbered rubber ducks and get to name them for a pound. Everyone gathers at the weir at the far end of the river ready to start the race. This tradition takes place during Easter so on the walk to the weir the children can take place in an Easter egg hunt and one person will find the golden egg which is worth £50 (I think). The ducks are thrown from the weir straight into the river and they float downstream, whichever duck reaches the end first wins. Each the young teenagers from the village get the chance to swim in the river and stop any stray ducks from getting stuck or floating too far behind. The winning ducks sponsor gets their name engraved on the duck trophy.
