Loony Dook

On new years day everyone wakes up, puts on their swimming costume and makes their way to a beach. Now they key thing to remember is that Scotland is freezing. So everyone runs into the water, dunks their head under, then run straight back out. The term Loony Dook comes from Scots language with loony meaning a silly person and dook meaning to dunk under. Great fun but very very cold. Some people even dress up to do this.
