Procession in Guatemala

Processions happen in Guatemala as part of our Holy Week celebration. During the week preceding Easter Sunday, devout Catholics will arrange large wooden structures known as "andas", place images of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary on top of it, and carry them around town for hours. This is all done to show penance for the death of Christ, and to symbolically accompany him in his final march to be crucified. Processions are usually paired with funerary music and incense.
