Graduation hat and Vappu

A "YO lakki" is a white, black-brimmed cap that is worn by high school graduates at the graduation party and every year after that on the first of May. The use of the cap on first of may is an old tradition. May Day marked the beginning of summer, and students celebrate this by drinking "sima" at different parks. Its said that the dirtied the cap is the more fun you have had over the years. You are not supposed to was your hat ever (and some peoples hats turn a brownish color) Fins are very proud of there white cap. Graduating high school in Finland is a bigger milestone that in America. The curricular system is harder and requires a lot of work from the students. It really is something to be prouder of.
