Walpurgisnacht celebrations

Walpurgisnacht is celebrated on the night of April 30th. It is a traditional festival with both pagan and christian roots. It is after Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess. That night is believed to be when witches gather on the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz Mountains, to welcome the arrival of spring. Modern celebrations feature bonfires, dancing, and costumes, with people often wearing witches' hats and masks. This night symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and the rejuvenation of nature after winter.
