Some favorite foods of Israel

Israel is home to many different cultures and so it really shows in our cuisine. These are some of personal favorite foods in Israel, if I travel somewhere I will probably keep making them for everyone to enjoy. Knaffe - is a traditional Arabic dessert, made with spun pastry called kataifi, soaked in a sweet, sugar-based syrup called attar, and typically layered with cheese, or with other ingredients such as clotted cream, pistachio or nuts. I like to top mine off with vanilla ice-cream. Hummus - is warm blended chickpeas. Usually we top it off with olive oil, lemon, herbs, paprika and some more chickpeas and beans. We eat it by taking pita bread and scooping hummus. Some people also eat it with raw onion (I do too) ;) Pita on Saag - Simple as it gets, you make pitas and put them of a saag (which is just a cast iron dome) over an open fire. You eat it with all kinds of spreads. Most popular amongst children is Nutella but my personal favorite is Labaneh cheese (savory) or tahini and date syrup mixed together (sweet).
