Lucia tradition

Lucia is a Swedish tradition that is celebrated on 13 December. I think that Lucia is supposed to bring light in “the darkest of hours”. Lucia is celebrated because of a girl named Lucia who was a young Christian girl who died for her faith. Lucia would secretly bring food to the Christians hiding in Roman catacombs. She would light her way with candles held in a wreath on her head so she could have both hands free to carry things. The day is celebrated with a “Lucia train”, first in the procession is a girl that has been elected as Lucia. She wears a white gown with a red sash and a crown of candles. The Lucia is followed by Lucia-handmaidens (tärnor), star-boys (stjärngossar) and gingerbread men (pepparkaksgubbar) and they all carry candles. During the procession you also sing Lucia songs, the most famous is called “Sankta Lucia”. On the day that you celebrate Lucia you also eat Lussekatter, a yellow S-shaped saffron bun with rasins (but I prefer them without the raisins). Here am I at different ages in my life dressed as Lucia and in the last blurry picture I'm even Lucia for real.
