Hari Gawai (Traditional costumes)

Hari Gawai or The Gawai Dayak Festival is an event where people of Sarawak celebrate to mark the end of harvesting season and gratitude for God and nature for productive harvest. Gawai means ritual or festival. It was celebrated in the 1st of June. The women would wear ngepan, a traditional costume for welcoming guests to the longhouse, wearing the sugu tinggi (Iban maiden headgear) as hair accessory. The men would wear cawat or sirat (loin cloth) with necklaces, armlets and anklets and a headgear made of peacock feathers.
