Midsummer celebrations

Midsummer, or "Midsommar" in Swedish, is a traditional celebration in Sweden marking the summer solstice, typically held on the Friday and Saturday between June 19 and 25. The festivities include raising and dancing around a maypole (midsommarstång), singing traditional songs, and enjoying a feast of pickled herring, new potatoes, and strawberries. People often wear flower crowns and traditional folk costumes. The celebration, which symbolizes the light and fertility of summer, is one of the most important holidays in Sweden, second only to Christmas.
