Day of the Dead

My favourite tradition in Mexico! It’s one of the most delightful times of the year. It starts at the end of September and ends on November 3. An opportunity to remember our loved ones who passed away with food and parties! Also, our way of presenting our respects to Death. Unfortunately, many seem to believe we disrespect Death since we party and such, but in truth we have the upmost respect for her. When our turn comes, we will greet her as old friends. A representation of Mictlantecutli and Mictecacihuatl, the divinities of Death. They show themselves in different ways even if you are from different religions or none whatsoever. We celebrate with food, poems, sugar skulls, sweets, flowers, altars to our dead, and more. Last year was my first time making a Catrina, which I made in honour of Coatlicue, Mother Earth. (Second pic)
