Villacher Kirchtag
Villacher Kirchtag is the largest traditional folk festival in the country and takes place in the town of Villach, in the southern region of Carinthia. The festival usually happens during the first week of August and lasts for a whole week, filled with music, parades, food, and traditional costumes.Villacher Kirchtag has a great mix of traditions. People dress in Dirndl (for women) and Lederhosen (for men), and there are a lot of cultural events like folk dances and brass bands playing lively music. The streets are filled with stalls selling local foods, like Reindling (a type of sweet bread) and Kärntner Kasnudeln (a delicious cheese-filled pasta), as well as beer from the famous Villacher brewery. One of the highlights is the big parade where hundreds of people, including groups in traditional costumes and beautifully decorated carriages, march through the town. The festival really brings the whole town together, and visitors from all over Austria and beyond come to experience the fun atmosphere. They also install a big amusement park for the week in the middle of the old town. So it's really funny when u ride a roller coaster und you look through the window into somebodies living roomIt’s a great way to see Austrian culture in full swing, with lots of singing, dancing, and eating.
