Catalan tradition

Here in Catalonia (Spain) we celebrate "La Castanyada", this tradition is celebrated around November 1st. Traditionally, an elderly woman known as "La Castanyera" roasts chestnuts on a charcoal stove and sells them wrapped in newspaper. The celebration marks the end of the harvest and is tied to All Saints' Day. We gather to eat roasted chestnuts (castanyes), sweet potatoes, and panellets (these ones are my favourite). We have a song about "La Castanyera", it's a song that children normally sing!
