Saint-Nicolas
In Blegium, we have 2 celebrations in December. Like almost everywhere, we have Christmas but before that : "Saint-Nicolas" : on December 6.Saint Nicolas is the favourite kids ' celebration. They get a lot of presents, chocolate and also clementine. A lot of family gives bigger gifts for Sint Nicolas than for Chrismas. We often see him with his donkey and his friend : "Père Fouettard" (whipping father) whose supposed to scare "mean" children. Most of the kids prepare a "meal" for Saint Nicolas and his friends on December 5th in the evening : carrot or apple for the donkey, sweetness and milk for Saint Nicolas... most of them are scared of "Père Fouettard" so they "forget" to put something for him (but, as a child, I was used to put him a little treat too ;)) Unfortunately, most of the people don't celebrate it forever, like Christmas. We do it whit child but you are quickly becoming too old... :(
