Xochimilco

One of the most fun and cultural activities you can do in Mexico City is a trajinera ride through the canals of Xochimilco. This place is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and combines tradition with a festive atmosphere. They are colorful and unique boats, typical of Mexico, that are decorated with striking names and designs. They can even put your name on the trajineras, your family's surname or any word or phrase you want. You can bring your own music and listen to it with a speaker or hire mariachi, marimba or norteños who play popular songs live while you enjoy the ride. Traditional snacks such as esquites, tacos, and drinks such as pulque or micheladas are sold. The trajineras have a lot to do with our history, since Xochimilco is a reflection of the pre-Hispanic chinampas that were unique agricultural systems developed by the Mexicas. They tell you legends and just if you want they can tell you Mexican horror legends about things that supposedly happen in some parts of Xochimilco. Many boats pass by selling things like flower crowns for the head, typical sweets. Plus, it is something super fun to do with friends or family.
