El Iztaccihuatl

In Mexico there is a legend of two lovers but the father of the young Iztaccihuatl did not accept their love, so he sent Popocatepetl to war with the promise that if he won, he could marry his daughter. When Popocatepetl returned from the war, he learned that Iztaccihuatl had died, Popocatepetl lifted Iztaccihuatl's body and took her to a mountain to ask the gods for help. The gods transformed the youth into two volcanoes, Iztaccihuatl and Popocatepetl. Iztaccihuatl is a dormant volcano representing the sleeping princess, while Popocatepetl is an active volcano representing the warrior guarding his beloved.
