Swedish Midsommar
Midsommar is what I would say the most Swedish thing there is. Midsummer is traditional celebration of the summer solstice where you decorate a big pole with lots of flowers and greenery and later dance around it wearing flower crowns. In my family we celebrate on the island where our summer house is, it is tradition that at 9am people from the whole island walk down to the midsummer field and participate in decorating and rising the midsummer pole. after that everyone goes back home to get ready and get dressed in their nicest summer clothes (no matter the wether) and that's when the guests arrive. We celebrate it with our cousins and family friends so when everyone has arrived it's time to go down in the garden to find flowers to make flower crowns out of while the adults prepare the food. at 3pm its time to once again walk down to the midsummer field and meet everyone from the island to dance around the poles to live music, we have an older man that comes every single year to play the accordion at our celebrations. when the dancing is over it is time for the children to play games and we hand out juice boxes and candy to everyone.after that its one again time for food and playing in the ocean for those who want to.this truly is my favorite holiday we have here in Sweden and I would absolutely recommend anyone who has the chance to visit during this time of year to join a celebration.
