Nok A.chik - the traditional house of the A.chilk / Garo tribe in Meghalaya, India

The traditional house of the A.chik or Garo tribe, called Nok A.chik, in the Garo Hills of Meghalaya reflects their rich cultural heritage. The Garo people were originally followers of Songsarek, an agricultural-based belief system, before converting to Christianity during British rule. Today, only a few still practice Songsarek, which is often misinterpreted as animism but is rooted in a deep respect for the supernatural and nature. The tribe celebrates the Wangala festival and offers sacrifices to honor their beliefs and ensure crop prosperity.
