local wildflowers!

In the city I live, our community really values Native plants - which can be described as plants evolved or adapted to our local environment for thousands of years, and are an important part of our local habitats, ecosystems and ecosystem services (pollination, infiltration, carbon sequestration, etc). They are the most sustainable plants for our specific area and were present long before European settlements. Most front lawns in my city have been converted to wildflower and native plants, and its so beautiful to watch as each series unfolds. "Squill" is the first wildflower that pops up in our area, through all the marvelous seasons (July/August is prime for blooms) and the goldenrod signals summer's end. I am so fortunate to be near many nature preserves as well, and can go walk among the wildflowers.
