Buraanbur

Buraanbur is usually performed during marriages and other joyful gatherings like independent day commemorations. It is a certain type of Somali cultural poetry combined with dance. It is a gender-appropriate one which is popular among females only. It is written, sung/recited by the poet leader first and then people would say after her verse by verse, like a choir. We use drums and sticks to make sounds. People make a circle with a wide space in the centre. At each page's end, a female dancer or two or a group would go to the centre of the circle and dance beautifully. It is a kind of dance that involves shoulder rocking movements a lot with one leg tapping on the floor and leaning forward a bit.
