Alpine Festival (Désalpe)

Alpine festivals also known as 'Désalpe' are local celebrations that take place across numerous villages in Switzerland at different dates during September and October. Herdsmen and women dress in traditional outfits (bredzon & dzaquillon) and parade cows, decorate extravagantly with colorful arrangements of flowers, through the village. The celebration marks the end of the alpine grazing season, when cows return to lower valleys after spending the summer in the high mountain pastures.
