Easter, Velikonoce

Easter "Velikonoce" in the Czech Republic is mainly a celebration of spring and has many traditional customs. The most notable one is "pomlázka", where boys go around on Easter Monday with a braided willow whip and playfully whip girls to ensure their health and youth. In return, girls give them painted eggs, chocolates, or sometimes a shot of alcohol.People also bake "beránek" (a sponge cake in the shape of a lamb) and "mazanec" (a sweet yeast bread). Decorating Easter eggs ("kraslice") is also a common tradition, and Easter Monday is typically celebrated with family and friends.
