Carnaval

Carnaval, in the south of the Netherlands it is called Vastelaovend, is a yearly tradition to celebrate the last night before the fasting. It also symbolises friendship and being together while dressing up in unusual bur colourfull outfits. Some people even make them themselfs! One signature of Carnaval are the parades with beautiful homemade floats-> see the picture ;)Also it is only celebrated in the south of the Netherlands: Noord-Brabant and Limburg (where it is called Vastelaovend). In these countys, cities are called a different name during the celebration. Venlo for example is called: de Zoepkoel which means the drinking pit. There is also a stage where famous Limburgers perform their songs which are sung in our dialect.
