Salmon Spawning

In September and October, Kokanee salmon spawn in the small creeks. In Kelowna this can easily be observed since the creek runs through the city and thousands of fish migrate and then die after spawning. In addition to the salmon, we have lots of bears that come into the city for easy food. They can be fun to watch but caution is needed. Since the Kokanee are landlocked and don't spend time in the ocean they are a lot smaller than the more famous species, usually around 30 cm in length.
