The Yörük çadırı is a traditional shelter used by the Yörüks, a nomadic community living around the Taurus Mountains. It is generally known as a “black tent” because it is woven from goat hair, a material that swells in the rain to become waterproof and loosens in dry weather to allow air circulation and keep the interior cool. The tent is supported by wooden poles and ropes and can be easily dismantled and transported, enabling Yörüks to migrate to highlands in summer and milder areas in winter. The interior is arranged according to family life, with a hearth and handwoven kilims as essential elements; therefore, the Yörük çadırı is not only a shelter but also a symbol of Yörük culture, resilience, and harmony with nature.
