We do not wash clothes between Christmas and New Year's Day

In our family, we don't do laundry between Christmas (December 24) and New Year's Day. I don't know how this tradition started in my family, but it is believed that if you do laundry during this time, someone close to you will die in the coming year. Perhaps it's just about being mindful of what you wear between the holidays and being aware of scarcity. I've also read that the boundary between the world of the living and the dead is particularly thin during this time, so that if you hang white sheets outside, the spirits cannot distinguish them from their own clothes and get caught on them.
