Walpurgis Night (Čarodějnice)

On the 30th of April, people of all villages gather around a large bonfire to burn “witches” (made of straws and cloths). Our ancestors believed that this pagan tradition protected the village from bad spirits. Now, its seen as a social event where people gather, cook sausages over the bonfire, chat, laugh and dance together. It is an act of welcoming spring.
