Wassailing

A "Wassail" is a traditional English event (especially in the Kent area because of its fruit-growing history. At Wassail, people thank the orchard trees for the previous harvest and welcome good spirits in, so we get a good harvest from the trees in the upcoming season. They also scare away the bad spirits by making lots of noise with special Morris dances, music, and torches!
