Theatre in Perú
When people think about Peru, they often think about our history, food, landscapes, and traditions. But there is another side of my country that I love: the people who dedicate their lives to creating art.Theatre in Peru is not a huge industry, and we are far from being a global theatre powerhouse. Many artists face challenges such as limited resources, small audiences, and the difficulty of making a living from their passion. However, despite all of this, theatre continues to exist. For many people, creating theatre here is an act of resistance. It is choosing to tell stories, preserve memories, and create something meaningful even when the path is not easy. Many people dream of being artists, but life sometimes takes them in different directions. The ones who continue are the people who believe that stories deserve to be told.I love theatre because it shows a different side of Peru: a country full of people who create, imagine, and fight to keep art alive. Every play is not only a performance, but also a reminder that creativity can survive even in difficult circumstances.Through theatre, Peruvians continue sharing our voices, our struggles, our humor, and our way of seeing the world. This photo is from a theatre production I created with my university classmates. We had almost no budget, so everything was built with the resources we had and the little free time between classes. It was not a professional production, but it represents something I deeply admire about theatre in Peru: people creating because they believe in telling stories, even when the circumstances are not ideal.
