Midsummer is my favorite tradition and holiday here in Sweden. It's not the same midsummer as in the horror movie haha. We dance around a flower-pole, with flowers crowns in our hair (that we made together earlier in the day), and sing traditional songs. The women wear flowy dresses, traditionally white or a summer color. We can also wear traditional Swedish clothing but that is not as common anymore. It's a very old tradition that originally celebrated fertility, but nowadays we celebrate that it's the brightest time of year and that it's the midst of summer. We eat a feast of traditional foods like pickled herring, potatoes, pies and strawberries on cream cakes. At night it is a tradition for young women to pick seven flowers to put under your pillow. Then you will dream of your future husband. It is our most whimsical tradition and I love it so much!
