Caga Tió

Caga Tió is a Christmas tradition in Catalonia, Spain. It's a magical log with a smiley face, blanket and red hat (called barretina in Catalan), that lives in each family's house during the month of December. Most Caga Tió's are fetched in the woods each year. We feed him every night, usually tangerines, and on Christmas day kids gather around Caga Tió and sing a typical song while hitting him with a stick. After singing, kids uncover Tió to find he has "pooped" sweets and presents.
