Carnestoltes
Carnestoltes is a week long celebration that starts with Dijous Gras, where everyone eats greasy foods like Coca de llardons or Botifarra d'ou. During this week, streets are filled with music, humour, fun and costumes. Schools must obey Carnestolte's rules, which arrive by letter. In the letter, Carnestoltes who is the king of parties and fun, states that each day of the week kids must wear what he says. Some days you'll have to wear socks of different pairs, your pyjama, an apron, a funny hat or funny hairstyle, or your parent's clothes! On the last day of the week, kids must dress up and wear a costume just like Halloween. In the town of Mollet, kids dance "Barraló" and meet Carnestoltes, who parades through the city in his carriage with his friends. Behind him, lots of people dance in different costumes that have been carefully prepared as well as their carriages during the year, because there's a contest and they could win it! On the last day, Carnestoltes is burnt alive (a muppet of it). The week ends on Dimecres de Cendra, that's also the first day of la Quaresma, another Catalan tradition. This is Mollet del Vallès's carnaval!
