San Sebastián roscos festival
THE SAN SEBASTIÁN ROSCOS FESTIVAL: The big day in honour of Saint Sebastian, on 20 January (which, coincidentally, is my birthday), sees the images of the saint and of San Ildefonso carried in procession from his church to that of the Assumption. The highlight of the route is the iconic throwing of traditional bread rings (roscos) from the balconies to those celebrating. I find it curious, as I am not Catholic, but I love its traditions, its art and its rituals.
El día grande en honor a San Sebastián —el 20 de enero, que curiosamente es el día de mi cumpleaños—, la imagen del santo y la de San Ildefonso salen en procesión desde su iglesia hasta la de la Asunción. Destaca de este recorrido la emblemática tirada de roscos de pan tradicionales desde los balcones a quienes lo celebran.Me resulta curioso, ya que no soy católico, pero me encantan sus tradiciones, su arte y sus rituales.
