Carnival celebrations

In Slovenia 7 weeks before Easter people get dressed in different costums and go on masquerade where we try to dispel the winter. This is catholic celebration even though that was first poganic celebration but church allowed it in later. In medieval times every village had it's own mascot but today only phew original mascots are preserved . Most famous are kurents from Ptuj . We eat special dessert at this time called krofi and the look similar to American donuts but they dont have hole in the middle .
